starting a blog [Nov. 14th, 2009|11:13 am]

As I've been having a bit of a crap time of it lately, I've been thinking about starting a blog to give me something to do and to practise my writing. I'm happy with coding, webhosts etc., but blogging platforms and so on are not something that I know much about! So I have a few questions if any of you bloggers/blog-readers out there would mind answering any/all of them :)

If you have your own blog:
- How often do you update?
- What do you write about?
- How do you gain a readership?
- Which blogging platform do you use? Your own hosted site, or somewhere like Blogspot/LJ/Tumblr?
- Do you use some kind of program like Wordpress? If so, what do you feel the benefits are?
- and finally, please link me to your blog :)

If you read other people's blogs:
- What are your favourite blogs & what do you like about them that keeps you coming back? Links please!
- What do you like to read about most? Fashion, cooking, day-to-day life..?

Thanks in advance for any responses!

Tofuky and Gravy Soda

Just in time for vegan Thanksgiving Day celebrations everywhere, Jones Soda Co. has created a limited-edition Tofurky and gravy–flavored soda, which they are delivering along with a few dessert treats in an adorable metal lunch box. Feast your eyes, folks, on TOFURKY AND GRAVY.

Nude Football Player

NFL tight end Tony Gonzalez makes another amazing play! But this time it's not one of his record breaking receptions, it's his all-star move for animals. The football sensation and his wife October are baring it all in a PETA ad to tell people to wear their own skin and let animals keep theirs. In the ad, Tony and October say "we'd rather go naked than wear fur."

You can hear Tony tell you about how his nearly-vegan diet helps him on and off the football field in exclusive video Q&A with him and October here!

That's right. India, which is home to an estimated 23,900 to 32,900 wild elephants, will no longer allow its most prominent national symbol—the elephant—to be imprisoned in zoos. The move by India's Central Zoo Authority (CZA) comes after years of campaigning by PETA India to improve conditions for captive elephants (it has already succeeded in getting performing elephants banned from Mumbai and other cities). Check out this moving ad above featuring Bollywood star Rahul Khanna.

New biographical movie on Gainsbourg: Serge Gainsbourg, vie Heroique [Nov. 14th, 2009|01:31 am]

ohnotheydidnt

[exsouvenir]
[music |Lykke Li - Breaking It Up]

The film will be the directorial feature debut of Joann Sfar, the award-winning French graphic artist. Sfar also wrote the screenplay.

Serge Gainbourg (Vie Heroique) is being produced by One World Films in conjunction with Universal Pictures International Studio (UPIS) and Studio 37.

The film is the first local production that UPIS has co-produced in France.

It is One World's second film project following Alix de Maistre's Pour Un Fils (For A Son).

The film traces Gainsbourg's life from a young boy named Lucien Ginsburg in 1940s occupied Paris, to his subsequent transformation into the world renowned poet, songwriter and singer Serge Gainsbourg.

Speaking about Joann Sfar, Christian Grass, president of UPIS said: 'His cutting edge creativity and unique take on the character of Serge Gainsbourg is what really drew us to this project - the first local language film we'll be co-producing in France.'

Universal Pictures International retains French theatrical distribution and home video rights to the project and will release the film in France in 2010. Studio 37 holds the international sales which will be run by Kinology.

Eric Elmosnino stars as Gainsbourg, Laetitia Casta plays Brigitte Bardot, while Mylene Jampanoi takes the role of Bambou.

Frederique Dumas of Studio 37 said: 'The film combines two worlds, Joann Sfar's and Serge Gainsbourg's, the magic of one and the emotional strength of the other. The script is beautiful, and Joann's cinematic vision is unique, which gives the film a universal appeal. We are extremely happy to be collaborating with Universal on a film led by two such talented producers.'

ABC is close to giving a pilot order to a modern version of the classic 1970s TV actioner "Charlie’s Angels."
Josh Friedman, who recently adapted the "Terminator" franchise for his Fox series "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles," is onboard to write and exec produce the new "Angels."

Also involved are original "Charlie’s Angels" producer Leonard Goldberg, who launched the series with Aaron Spelling in 1976, as well as Drew Barrymore, who starred in and produced the 2000 film version and its sequel. Sony Pictures TV is the studio.

But who would they cast?

X Factor and Girls Aloud star Cheryl Cole versus Lily Allen - again [Nov. 14th, 2009|01:53 am]

ohnotheydidnt

[amelia_heinle]
Ding ding – it’s Round 278 of the feud between Lily Allen and Cheryl Cole. And they’re both clearly still up for battle.

Organisers made sure their paths didn’t cross backstage at the Children in Need gig by making sure their dressing rooms were far apart. But we saw Lily on feisty form as she got a ringside view of Chezza’s song via a monitor – belting out a comic “Fight, fight, fight, fight, fight for this love”.

She tried to score more points by mimicking her Geordie rival’s soldier dance footwork and cracked herself up by punching the air.

The two famously fell out when Lily first boxed Cheryl into a corner by calling her a “stupid bitch” on her blog – and Chezza, right, hit back by branding Lil a “chick with a dick”.

So if they ever get the chance to square up again face to face to swap more insults, it’ll be a case of... knock yourselves out, girls!

Hey y'all,

so I'm planning a T.S. Eliot tattoo from "The Wasteland," specifically the part in bold:

"You gave me hyacinths first a year ago;"
"They called me the hyacinth girl."
--Yet when we came back, late, from the hyacinth garden,
Your arms full, and your hair wet, I could not
Speak, and my eyes failed, I was neither
Living nor dead, and I knew nothing,
Looking into the heart of light, the silence.

The thing is, I would also like to have the line accompanied by a sprig of hyacinth, and I would like to base the image on antiquated-looking naturalist sketches. Think along the lines of the original Audubon drawings, but for flowers. Does anyone know of a particular book or artist I could consult where I might find images of this nature? I'm not really having an easy time of it searching online.
